10 Aug 2008 - Man, that was close: I'd like to take a slightly different angle for this update. While things are fairly normal around here, there has been a recent discovery. Personally, I'm not much of a "blade shaver." I much prefer using an electric razor. I will agree that a blade does give a closer shave, but an electric razor is easier to travel with and just less fuss all around. Recently I tried a little product called Lectric Shave. You know, I'm really not certain how it works, but I can tell you, it does! It's very much worth a few bucks if you would like a closer shave out of your electric razor.
27 Jul 2008 - Bowling?: Well, it certainly had been a while. So, in the interest of keeping things fresh and exciting, we went bowling this weekend. I'd have to say, I threw 2 fairly decent games, but no matter how good the ball placement was, I just couldn't seem to get a strike. Lots and lots of "nines." I was really puzzled. Then it hit me! This was my first time bowling since I hired on at Mesaba Airlines! I'm now a Part 121 pilot, and the Railway Labor Act of 1936 severely restricts my ability to strike! I knew it wasn't just me!
6 Jun 2008 - Slump Update: Yep, as happens to the best of pilots, I've been in a "landing slump." I think I'm on my way out of it, as my last couple where OK. But boy did I have a string of not-all-that-great landings when everything felt just fine into the short approach, the flare, the bleed off, then... THUD. Booooo. Anyways, lots of other things going on besides that. So, lets get started. Shelley and I made a ride up Fremont Peak recently which was uber awesome. We took a couple days to just sit and relax for some camping in a really cool spot. I actually went geocaching for the first time. We visited Minnesota Science museum as well, which we'd highly recommend to anyone in that area. There were a few really neat memories like an actual picture of a snot rocket, and an interactive scab that you can pick. Interested in a new type of airline? Fly Derrie-Air! One of the world's greatest headlines can be found here. I do have a new dream car on the list. Perhaps maybe I'll get one in a couple of years. If you want to be REALLY eco-friendly, I think you should order some Sheep Poo Paper! Here's a really great site for helping get your head around somethings called Rough Equivalents. Here is some of the best news I've ever heard! And, if you're looking to kill some time at home or work, here's a great place to go: Interesting High Speed Video Clips. Let's see, what else. Oh yeah, Shelley made one of the largest flower bouquets ever seen. Shelley also capitalized on an idea that I had recently in making a google-map of all the airports I've flown into. It can be viewed here! And, what update would be complete with out some pictures from the line? So, we've got the Mesaba Training Center, a nice sunrise, a nice sunset with the moon, here's a C-130 landing on 30R at MSP while we hold short, a really great shot of an Airbus during simultaneous visual approaches at MSP to 12L and 12R, and this shot of the PFD after leveling off at FL400.
12 May 2008 - Shelley's B-Day and Catching up: Shelley has reached the big THREE-OH!!! She has said that she still feels 29 though. So, what else has been going on... Well, on a short break, Shelley came up to MSP, and we were able to grab her 30th Highpoint just in time for her 30th Birthday, Eagle Mountain, MN. We also hit up Fort Ord Dunes State Park. Then, there are some other pics I have to share. First up, is a roadway seen in Texas, then a flight case of an Airbus driver, a quick view of the Mesaba Airlines training center as seen from final approach to runway 30R at MSP, and some nice aircraft spotting shots from various places. And we shall finish up with the greatest gas station in the entire world.
27 Mar 2008 - Pictures Update: I have a few photos here that should make for good sharing material. As you know, I did get a new lappy and was somewhat forced to deal with "Winders" again. I was happy being a Linux-boy and I will be one again in the future. Especially after seeing crap like this. I have images from the line to share as well such as, the Washington Monument, the blimp hanger at Moffett Field, the St Louis Arch, and a really nice sunrise. In other news, I noticed a really interesting item in the store the other day called Batter Blaster. This is simply pancake batter in the same can you get ReadyWhip in. I was intrigued. It's quite straight forward. Just squirt it in a pan, flip em, and that's it! All in all, they were OK. Not the greatest, but not bad at all. Personally, I think they were awesome considering the sheer simplicity in using just one single pan. That's it. The ideal item for the single man! The Easter Bunny was seen at MSP last week running around the snow covered ramp delivering candy to various company employees. Funniest part to me, was that he was using, of all things, a Lav Service Cart as transportation. LOL!
